The Commission comprises 18 distinguished members in the field of human rights, elected according to the principle of equitable geographical representation (six from each geographical region, i.e., the African Group, the Arab Group, and the Asian Group) and with due regard for gender balance. Members are nominated by their respective governments and elected by the Council of Foreign Ministers for a three-year term, renewable once. The current members of the Commission are listed below.
