Message by the IPHRC Executive Director
The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) functions as an advisory body and key organ of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the area of human rights, supporting Member States in the independent promotion and protection of human rights for all. Established in 2011, the IPHRC receives its mandate directly from the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM). It upholds human rights and fundamental freedoms in Member States, as well as the fundamental rights of Muslim minorities and communities in non-Member States, in accordance with internationally recognized human rights standards and norms, and adds the value of Islamic principles of justice and equality.
The IPHRC remains steadfast in keeping pace with institutional and digital developments while strengthening communication channels with the OIC Member States, national, regional, and international human rights institutions, as well as public opinion in the Islamic world and beyond. Through this official website, the IPHRC has endeavored to create a knowledge-driven and interactive platform that reflects its mission and mandate, showcases its efforts and activities, responsibilities and tasks, as well as the contribution and engagement of its members and experts — thereby enhancing transparency, facilitating access to information, and documenting the IPHRC human rights journey ever since its establishment.
With the support accorded to the IPHRC by Member States, my colleagues and I are committed to pursuing concerted efforts to protect and promote human rights within Member States and to disseminate human rights awareness from an Islamic perspective grounded in principles of justice and human dignity, while respecting the cultural specificities of Member States and in conformity with relevant international standards and charters.
We beseech Allah, the Almighty, for success and guidance in achieving the IPHRC objectives and serving the aspirations of the peoples of our Islamic World.
